senseless war begins: Gulf War III - Aprox:

First missiles hit Baghdad, shortly afterwards Bush addresses the
Nation 10.16pm to 10.20pm EST. 19/03/2003
"For the peace of the world and benefit and freedom of the
Iraqi people, I hereby give the order to execute Operation Iraqi
Freedom. May God bless the troops."
Gulf War I: The Iran - Iraq War, 1981-88. At that
time Saddam was the hero of the West for containing Iranian religious
fundamentalism and defending Western oil interests in the Middle
East. He received military aid such as chemical and biological weapons
from USA, France and Britain. He used some of these on the Iranians
and some on his own rebellious Kurds, killing 5,000 in Halabja in
1988 - not one Western nation decried these events at the time.
Gulf War II: Bush Sr. and the West (with a coalition
of 90 countries behind them) push Saddam (not a hero any more) out
of Kuwait but stop short of regime change partly due to pressure
from the Arab World. Instead they initiate a programme of crippling
trade sanctions and bombing campaigns that continued throughout
the recent diplomatic wrangling over Gulf War III.
Gulf War III: Bush's War or perhaps more accurately,
Bush Jr.'s bid for the 2004 elections, aka the Second Iraqi Oil
War ... got any other suggestions for what to call this mess?

| This
is a brilliant and chilling analysis of the workings of dictatorship
and the twentieth century's worst example - a man who was celebrated
as Time magazine's Man of the Year. He perpetrated the worst war crimes
and crimes against humanity in living memory with the complicity of
other world leaders. Revisiting the steps he took from obscurity to
empire, we are reminded and warned of the dangers of populist ideas
and the sacrifice of civil rights for the 'national good.' - GlobalAware
