War or peace with Iraq?

Diplomatic Endgame
We are told we have entered the ‘diplomatic endgame.’ The
US has backed down from pushing a vote at the Security Council this week
but no one knows if that means the war is on or off, if a vote will happen
or not.
Colin Powell thinks it might be better to go to war without having
asked for UN backing rather than having asked and been told no. Meanwhile,
the spin doctors are working hard to blame the French for ruining what
was to be a perfectly good ‘pre-emptive strike’ (attack without
reason). The US House of Representatives cafeteria has even removed the
word French from its menus… Bulgarian Onion Soup anyone? If the
US proceeds with an attack anyway, we must ask ourselves whether they
are fit to be our global police force. If they are unwilling to listen
to the rising crescendo of anti-war opinion and would rather pillory one
of their strongest European allies than accept that they may be out of
line, we may be witnessing the beginning of the end of diplomatic ‘games’
for good and that would be a tragedy for the free world indeed.
